I had the same thing happen to squash. I planted them indoors and kept them in the window. This was over the course of Febuary. I was thinking fungus. It was an exceptional cold winter. I am in coastal SC. Last year we had lots of rain and many peoples gardens were blighted by a fungus. I hope those guys aren't still around.

Your raised beds look awesome! I bet it is great to look out and see such a nice, organized garden space. I hope your plants are thriving and you get a great harvest. What a fabulous transformation!

Great information! I did not know all of the benefits of raised beds. You have inspired me to make some new plans for my gardening space. I would certainly like to start planting early and not have so many weeds in my way. I am looking forward to hearing more and seeing more of your garden space.

Becky, this is a great idea. I just gave away a pallet of fence block on craigslist which could have been used in the same way. from your first photo, it looks like you are also lining with brick for decoration. Are you going to continue that on all the beds? You could also stucco or paint the block to get an uniform "non-concrete" look.

Ugh. I wish I had an answer for what is causing your plants to wilt.

My cucumber plants, here in northern California, are falling prey to what appears to be the same thing. However, mine are wilting/dying shortly after transplanting into the ground, leading me to think my problem is fungus-related, due to lack of rotation from year to year.

Yet, after doing a pretty intense search of disease descriptions and photos, your plants seem to be the most similar to mine. So now I'm simply not sure.

[...] All in all, the good news is we have a ton to plant and there will always be some failure rate with seeds. So a good rule of thumb is to plant 20% more than you think you will need. If they all survive, you will have extra plants to give away to other Urban Gardeners or even those looking to Garden in Small Spaces.
